Boon Lay Bus Interchange

After Toa Payoh, SengKang and Ang Mo Kio, the next integrated aircon bus interchange will be in Jurong West. That’s the Boon Lay Bus Interchange (Transport Hub). It is slated to be completed in 2009.

Information is limited at the moment, but from how Ang Mo Kio turn out, you can expect sliding doors at the gates leading out to the bus for alighting. There might also be magnetic detectors where the doors will only be opened when a bus calls at the bus bay for boarding activity.

This public transport hub will be integrated with the largest mall in the west, Jurong Point and a newly built condominium The Centris. Now who doesn’t want a shopping mall, a MRT station and a bus interchange right at your door step. We would have bought a unit if we have the financial means. 

Boon Lay Bus Interchange is normally very busy. The human crowds varies from students from NTU, workers from the industrial estate and army guys from nearby Army camps. We hope the the new bus interchange will bring better route planning and more feeder bus services to better serve everyone in Jurong West.

Jurong West Sports and Recreation Centre (JWSRC)

The Jurong West Sports and Recreation Centre (JWSRC) was opened on 10 Nov 2006. It is an integrated sports complex that includes swimming pool, Jurong West Sports Stadium and badminton courts. Currently, the stadium is the home of the S-League team Gombak United FC who played their matches here since 2007.

We have brought our kids to the swimming pool which includes a swimming playground called the Aquatic Centre that my kids quite enjoy. One thing to take note if you bring young kids to the swimming playground, they can get cold very quickly so a full body swimming suit is recommended. If you want to laze in the water, then the Lazy River circling the Aquatic centre is the best. You can just take a float, sit on it and let the currents take you around the pool.

After our swim, we would normally go to the Japanese Sushi Restaurant at level 4 to have a nice meal. The restaurant is called Nihon Mura 日本村. Their main attraction is the 99 cents sushi. They have a wide variety of sushi where each plate is only 99 cents. Other than that they have all the main Japanese dishes like Chawanmushi and Katsu Don. Highly recommended for group gatherings.

If you are driving by car,

From PIE (Pan Island Expressway),

Exit slip road to Pioneer Road North
Turn right to Upper Jurong Road
Turn right to Jurong West St 93
Travel another 250m to JWSRC carpark entrance

From AYE (Ayer Raja Expressway),

Exit slip road to Pioneer Road North
Turn left to Upper Jurong Road
Turn right to Jurong West St 93
Travel another 250m to JWSRC carpark entrance

Jurong West Digest

Today, HDB release new batch of flats for sale and among them, Jurong West have 2 blocks of flats for balloting. They are located in Kang Ching Rd and the 2 blocks are 338B and 339C. These 2 blocks are surplus flats from the last Selective En-bloc Redevelopment Scheme.

According to HDB, the indicative price range is $54, 000 - $71,000.

Studio apartments normally have 2 rooms with 1 living room and a kitchen.  As they are build for elderly residents, these apartments are all in ready-to-move-in condition. No renovations needed.

Around these Jurong West  studio apartments at Kang Ching Rd, there are amenities like Taman Jurong Community Club and Taman Jurong Shopping Centre. For food, the residents can go to the Taman Jurong Market Food Centre which is just across the road. For relaxation, there is the nearby Jurong Lake Park. And the nearest MRT station is LakeSide.

Jurong Point CNY Happenings

Jurong Point (JP) is the largest and most successful mall in the western part of Singapore. And in the weeks leading to Chinese New Year, JP will have a series of cool events and promotions lined up for the Jurong West residents.

Watch the Guangxi Puppet Art Troupe perform. They are performing a graceful dance choreography fused with rod puppets. Performance date will be on Sat 19 Jan � 2pm, 4pm & 7pm.
